Scores don't tell the full story

The Saracens sent both thier senior men teams out to Brandon over the weekend, but came home with a bonus point and some lessons learnt. The First Division team lost a very close 22-15 game, but left the game with both territory and possesion, failing to punch in not only the tying try but the winning and the posibility of not a single bonus point loss but a bonus point win. Trys were scored by Chad Polenski and Eric Harland, Colin Fraser added a convert and a penalty kick.

Saracens suffer first loss at hands of Champs
The Saracens first division side came out flat against the defending Champions. The UofM Wombats opened the match with 4 quick tries. Following that the team really stepped up and played a very good game. The Saracens showed a lot of heart keeping the game close and tying the second half. C.J. Balan was the lone try scorer for the Saracens, Colin Fraser converted it and added a penalty kick in the 38-10 loss.

Saracens Div. 2 losses hard fought game
The Saracens second division side sent out a very inexperenced side against the Steinbach Thistles who had the experence to win the game, in a very impressive battle from this young squad. If the Second side in the Saracens stripe keep playing this way the experience and wins will come.

Saracens Start Season With Big Win

The div. 1 Saracens side started the season on home turf at Maple Grove Rugby Park against the Assassins. The Assassins scored the opening try to take a early 5-0 lead. The Saracens came storming back scoring 4 straight unanswered tries and adding two penalty goals. The Assassins scored two late tries but the Saracens had this one wrapped up with a final score of 28-15. Try scorers were J.T. Gregorie, "Little" Willy Fraser and Colin Fraser who scored 2 and added 2 penalty kicks, and 1 convert. Coach Willy Marchak named a couple of guys who stood out, starting with Josh Jolly who came into the game like a hockey player taking shifts, Josh came in for our multiple blood subs and played a big contribution to the Saracens win. Andrew Mitchell also coming of the bench played both in the forwards and backs his ability to fill so many roles boosted the team when he was called on. Andrew also found himself in the Sin-Bin for defending a teammate. The penalty did not hurt the team but raised the spirits as the Saracens scored two tries while a man down and kept the Assassins of the board. Iian Ashcroft also found the bin very late in the game while trying to ref the match while playing. The "Big Hit Award" was split going to Maurie "MO-MO" Bramwell, and Scott Lake. The "Man-of-the-Match" went to Alex "Sod" Ashwell and Colin Fraser.

Saracens Div 2 Make a Successful Return to the League

The Saracens Div.2 team played there first game of the season against an experienced side in the Winnipeg Wanderers. The game started of a little sloppy but the young Saracens with the assistance of some veterans mounted an impressive comeback to tie the game at 24 late in the match, and preserve the tie with some impressive defense inside there own 22 up to the final whistle. Congrats goes out to Dyan Harris and Logan Wright scored tries in there first senior men games, someone needs to remind the veterans of the second division side of Zulu. Alex "Sod" Ashwell and Dylan Wilson added the other two tries while the return of Rick "Slowbo" Slobodian saw him knock over two converts.

Saracens Have Good Showing at RugbyMania

The Saracens used the first ever Assassins RugbyMania as a true test for some of our younger players as some of the veterans worked the kinks out. The Saracens put up a 1-4 record, which is a bit tainted as we lost our last match in a boat race to the host Assassins, most of the loss has been placed on a smooth talking rookie who said he could scull a beer, and could not, at least he showed he is a promising prop. His mistake has been noted by our sheriff and punishment may be laid down at Kangaroo Court this year. We will leave that to the Judge and jury.
