Snafu’s 41st Tournament

The Saracen family is proud to announce that it will be hosting it 41st Snafu Tournament in this year of 2011. Our rugby tournament will be on the 2011 Canadian August long weekend (July 29th - August 1st). We also have added some new and unique elements to the weekend, read on and find out what we are offering for 2011.

Snafu was started by the Saracens in 1970, on the August long weekend and has become the largest independently run single team tournament in North America and a mainstay of rugby in Manitoba. Snafu has grown from a small, enthusiastic youngster to a major festival celebrating its 41st year running. From the games to the camaraderie and hi-jinks, Snafu is all about good times for all. Combine that with feverish competition on and off the field both during the day or at midnight or under the tent during the party. With both genders being represented in the men’s and women’s divisions no one is left out.

New for this year will be the addition of two new competitive levels first we will be offering for both boys and girls 15-a-side U-18 division to encourage the growth of the sport. We hope that we can showcase the youth of our sport and give them the thrill of playing in front of their peers.

The second new division will be both men’s and women’s 7-a-side. Rugby Canada is currently in the process of looking to hold a 7’s National Tournament and the Saracens are looking to get it brought to Manitoba, with what we hope will be a dry run for them to see this is the time and place to hold it and we can do it like no one else in Canada. This division is open to all clubs, rep sides and Provincial teams.

As in the past few years, we will be giving away prize money. The amount of prize money will be determined by the number of teams in each division.

On this weekend we offer a host of things to enjoy under our huge party tent and beer garden facility located at Maple Grove Rugby Park. Starting on the Friday night we will be having the team Meet and Greet event and registration. The evening will be highlighted by Saracens Friday Night Fights. This will be the 2nd year that we will have this going on, it was meet with enthusiasm last year so we will offer it again so come and watch Saracen players box one another under the lights in the tent.

Saturday the fun all starts with GAMES, GAMES, GAMES all day with beers and a variety of great food. This fabulous day will end with a BBQ Buffet Banquet and entertaining evening all under the tent. We understand that teams like to do pub crawls that evening we are suggesting that since this is included in registration so why not start the night at the park with dinner and have your crawl go from there.

Sunday’s excitement will continue with more games and playoffs. The Mardi gras style party then begins under the tent and runs till 2am. And don’t forget Midnight.
